Oyo State Achieves Economic Stability with N24bn Monthly Salary Payments

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to economic growth, highlighting the monthly injection of N24 billion into the state’s economy through salary payments to state and local government workers. He emphasized that this financial stability, coupled with a conducive business environment, has encouraged private sector investments in the state.

The governor made this statement on Sunday when he received a delegation of Muslim faithful, including clerics, traditional rulers, and political office holders, at his Ikolaba residence in Ibadan. The delegation, led by Deputy Governor Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, included the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rashidi Ladoja; Oyo South Senator, Oloye Sharafadeen Alli; former Deputy Governor, PDP Deputy National Chairman, Amb. Taofeek Arapaja; Prof. Kamil Oloso; Babasale Musulumi Oluyole local Government, Asiwaju Akeem Olatunji among others.

Oyo State’s Progress and Economic Stability

Governor Makinde expressed gratitude to the Muslim Ummah for their prayers, support, and commitment to the state, noting that peace and unity have been instrumental in Oyo’s economic progress. He recalled how political divisions once marred the state’s development but emphasized that the current atmosphere of peace has led to significant growth.

“Every four weeks, N24 billion flows into the economy of Oyo State through workers’ salaries. The state’s wage bill stands at approximately N14 billion, while local governments account for about N10 billion,” he stated.

He further highlighted ongoing private-sector investments, citing the Farmers’ Wholesale Market project at Ijaiye Farm Settlement, where 3,000 hectares have been allocated for agricultural development.

The Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Asiwaju Akeem Olatunji, who also holds the title of Babasale Musulumi of Oluyole, hosted a special Iftar gathering at his private residence in Sanyo, Oluyole LG, on Wednesday, March 26.

The well-attended event brought together prominent Islamic leaders, including members of Nasrul-Lahi-il-Fatih Society of Nigeria (NASFAT), the League of Imams, and other distinguished clerics. It served as a platform for fostering unity, brotherhood, and religious harmony within the community.

Asiwaju Olatunji’s Call for Unity and Peace

In his address, he reaffirmed his commitment to religious harmony and community development. He urged religious leaders to continue promoting social cohesion and peaceful coexistence.

“Nigeria is facing economic challenges, but despite this, His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, has put in place various economic initiatives to cushion the effect on Oyo State residents,” he stated.

He also warned against divisive elements who may attempt to use religion for political or financial gains.

“Security is everybody’s business. We must remain united, respect people of other faiths, and coexist peacefully. That is how an organized society thrives,” he added.

Imam Abdul Azeez Commends Olatunji’s Leadership

The Chief Imam of Oluyole, Imam Toliat Abdul Azeez, described the gathering as historic, commending Olatunji’s inclusive leadership and dedication to the welfare of Oluyole residents.

Special prayers were offered for Olatunji’s continued success, as well as for divine guidance and progress in his leadership.
