The Nigerian Labour Congress urges the Tinubu administration to engage in dialogue with the organizers of the #EndBadGovernance protests.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has reiterated its call for the President Bola Tinubu-led government to engage in dialogue with the conveners of the #EndBadGovernance protests, rather than resorting to security clampdowns. The union has also stated that it plans to hold its own protest to demand the implementation of the minimum wage agreement. This protest will proceed as planned if the government does not take action.

In a statement released on Friday by the Head of Information and Public Affairs, Benson Upah, the NLC emphasized that the ongoing national protests are separate from the issue of the minimum wage.

The statement read, “We find it necessary to reiterate that in our statements of July 22nd and 23rd, 2024, we had advised the government to dialogue with the leaders instead of engaging in unhelpful rhetoric, as it was within their constitutional right to protest.”

“Our position on the government meeting with and engaging in sincere dialogue with the leaders of this action remains unchanged. It’s the best way to go,” Upah added.
